Why do you have so many worship services?
At Carson City 1st UMC we have four different worship services so we can offer people different choices in the style of worship.

  • Our 8:00 am. service is a blend of tradition and informality.
  • At 9:30 am, we have a praise and worship service led by our Joyful Noise praise band and our worship team held in our sanctuary.
  • People looking for a more traditional and formal style can attend our 11:00 am. service. Our Chancel Choir led by Judy Monson sings at this service.
  • For those looking for a more meditative and quiet worship there is the Prayer and Song Service in the tradition of Taize and it takes place at 6:00 pm. on the first Sunday of each month.

What is a United Methodist?
We are:

  • A Covenant community dedicated to making desciples for Jesus Christ. We make a promise to God and to the congregation to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts and service.
  • A Diverse community. We welcome all persons in the United Methodist Church with Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors.
  • Biblical in faith We trust free inquiry into matters of Christian doctrine. Our faith is guided by Scripture, tradition, experience and reason.
  • Evangelical, connectional. The United Methodist Church continues and expands its robust evangelical heritage. Each congregation is linked in a covenant community of faith across the connected congregations.
  • Sharing God’s gifts. United Methodists believe that each one of us is called to participate in the outreach ministry of Jesus Christ. “Do all the good you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can.”
  • Sharing God’s Love We support worldwide ecumenical and educational ministries. We reach beyond our own church and community to share God’s love with people of many faiths.
  • Socially concerned, personally involved. The United Methodist Church has worked for over 200 years to help the poor, sick, the orphaned, the aging, the oppressed and the imprisoned. Our church participates in the struggles of women, people with physical and mental challenges and racial and ethnic minority persons helping them to attain equity and equality in the church and in society through responsible social action.

What makes the Carson City 1st UMC different from other churches?
Like all Christian Churches we follow Jesus Christ our Lord. If anything makes us different it is our motto:
“Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.”
The people at Carson City 1st UMC are diverse in their opinions on many religious, social and political matters. People don’t all have to think the same to belong here. Even though these people accept their differences they rejoice in being united in the Spirit of God’s love and their commitment to bringing this love into the community and the world.
