30 Hour Famine

The Youth Group’s Presentation on April 22, 30 hour famine (Audio Link)

On April 21-22 our Youth participated in a 30 Hour Famine to raise money and awareness for the children of Malawi, Africa.
They spent Saturday evening at the church doing activities to keep their minds off of their rumbling stomachs. They listened as Rev. Rob talked to them about his time in mission work and even practiced a little Tai Chi under the direction of Rev. Dixie. On Sunday morning they broke their fast and presented the congregation with a wonderful program during our three worship services. After services the youth sold muffins, cookies and juice to raise money for children in Malawi. They inspired the congregation by their words and deeds to donate a total of $883.00! That feeds, clothes, and gives medicine(s) for a month, schooling supplies and livestock are also supplied to the families of 29 children! What a great thing we as a church family were able to accomplish! Job well done.

Christmas CantataThe Chancel Choir will perform at the 9:30 & 11:00 am services on December 11th. Please come to share with us in celebrating the birth of Jesus.

A World of Christmas by Joseph Martin
Presented by the Chancel Choir
Nancy Mielke, Organ / Katie Lauder, Piano
Shirley Garrett and Art Duvall, Narrators

Music is the language that transcends every cultural and national boundary. It connects us all with the tethers of our shared faith and our mutual dreams for hope and peace.

At Christmas the wings of song carry us to far away places, and we learn that in Christ there is no East or West. All who gather at the manger find that the noisy babble of hate and prejudice melt into a joyous anthem of praise for the child born Prince of Peace. In the gentle candle glow of Bethlehem’s stable we are washed in the colors of God’s grace and all our differences surrender to the light.

In this journey exploring the celebration of the blessed birth of Jesus, you will hear classic songs, carols and customs from Germany, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Russia, England, the West Indies and Italy. The cantata will close with two familiar African-American Spirituals, “Go, Tell it on the Mountain” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”.

Nativity Coming to a Stable Near You!

Posted by – November 16, 2011

Saturday and Sunday, December 10-11

Are you starting to hear tinkling bells in your head and to yearn for the crispness of winter air? Are your thoughts turning to the Nativity? Our annual gift to the community is the Living Nativity, where visitors can experience the amazing story of Christ’s birth through 10 living scenes around the church. During the 2-night presentation, about 1500 people drive, walk, bike or skate by to see the story come alive.

It takes the work of about 200 people to put this gift together. Helpers are needed in every aspect from publicity to moving and building sets to being in scenes, bringing food, helping with costumes and cleaning up the day after. We even need animal lovers to help transport donkeys, cows and sheep! Please join us in giving this wonderful gift.

Watch for more information. If you’ve never been a part of the Living Nativity, please come join those who have. It’s a spirited way to start the Christmas season. Whether you’re comfortable in the scenes or behind them, there is a place for you!
