Stephen Ministry

Posted by – November 26, 2011

Stephen Ministry LogoSince September 1990, when Stephen Ministry first came to Carson FUMC, we have had 10 training classes with a total of 66 members becoming trained Stephen Ministers. We how have 11 active Stephen Ministers meeting the care giving needs of our members as well as non-members. Some of the current Stephen Ministers now have more than one care receiver they are working with.

Our Stephen Ministry program is a strong, active program with dedicated people involved. We can be very proud of our Stephen Leaders; Marcia Bernard, Marleba McCord, Frank Tetz, Linda Getschman, Paul Payne and Sandee Gagnier. We are going to begin a new training class on January 10th. The training will be held in the Wesley Room every Tuesday night, except Holy Week, from 6 pm to 9 pm until April 24th. A total of 50 hours of training followed by 2 years of care giving.

Stephen Ministry is based on the idea that all Christians are ministers. The responsibility for passing on God’s love for people is not just for a chosen few, but for all Christians who have chosen to be God’s children. Likewise, the joy of helping others I the privilege of all Christians. Stephen Ministers are caring Christian friends who can offer a listening ear to help others through the tough times in life. If you are going through a tough time and could use a caring friend, call Rev. Dixie. If you are interested in the training, talk to Rev. Dixie.

5th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 – 7:00pm

Each of our faith traditions expresses the importance of hospitality and the value of being a gracious host. Thanksgiving is a time when our American values and Religious cultures intermingle as we gather around a table and express our gratitude. It is a time to welcome people to our homes or be a guest in another’s house. Join us for an interfaith service of Thanksgiving. Each of us will share a personal reflection on hospitality and welcoming guests. We will welcome spiritual guests and share how they have touched our lives.

With peace & Blessings,

Father Chuck Durante, Saint Teresa of Avila

Father Jeffrey Paul, Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church

Revs. Rob & Dixie Jennings-Teats, Carson City 1st United Methodist Church

Pastor Larry Schneider, Unity of the Sierra

Rabbi Evon Yakar, Temple Bat Yam: The Jewish Community of South Lake Tahoe & Valley Regions
